“After listening to a recording of an introductory presentation I did for a seminar at King's College London, I realized how much could be lost during my performance due to my improper accent. I have always been conscious of my imperfect accent, and had considered taking some lessons many times, but after hearing myself I decided it was time to act on it. I decided to take individual lessons, and in just two months, meeting only once a week, and rehearsing on my own time between lessons, we covered those areas that had proven problematic in my initial speech assessment, and those additional ones that cropped up during the course. I feel I have gained all I wanted from the course, which has provided me with a solid base on which to keep progressing and with tools to help me improve. Olga is a very competent tutor, and an affable person too, which made the whole experience enjoyable and constructive. “I liked the fact that we were constantly encouraged to improve ourselves but without being preached to or nagged by the teacher. I also liked that we worked with mirrors and that there was a certain flexibility in terms of what sounds to practice when. For example, when it was spotted that most of the participants struggled with the ‘æ’ sound, we did extra exercises for it, despite the fact that according to schedule we were supposed to practice ‘k’.”
