355. Pro Tips for Publishing: The Title and The Cover

When people find out that I am a publisher, they often ask me how did I do it.

I published my first book Get Rid of your Accent in 2006; it became an instant hit, and a few months later an international bestseller.

My first advice to all who want to publish their book - invest in a professional graphic designer and create a striking cover.

What are the ingredients of a great book cover?
1. Title: must be attention grabbing
2. Colours: symbolise emotions
3. Fonts: fonts symbolise authority and style
4. Content: talk about the benefits people will get from reading your book

My second advice: create a catchy book title and a more descriptive sub title. Before publishing my book, I created a list of 20 titles. Then I showed it to 100 people who were my potential buyers. 99% chose the title Get Rid of Your Accent.

In my next post, I will share my pro tips to create a sellable book content.
