Why Are Brilliant Professionals Overlooked Because of the Way They Speak?

Every week, I meet highly intelligent professionals who share the same frustration:

"I know I'm good at what I do, but I don't seem to get the recognition I deserve."

"I am bullied for my accent."

"My colleagues react strangely when they hear my accent."

"When I speak, people do not listen to me"

I can continue this list...

What Makes Your Communication Ineffective?

In my experience, it is a combination of unhelpful speech habits:

• unclear pronunciation and weak voice projection

• lack of pauses and speaking too quickly

• monotonous speech and flat intonation

How To Improve Speech?

Through intonation, we convey our attitudes, emotions, and feelings. I recommend booking a personalised speech analysis to identify your intonation patterns.

Pauses help separate ideas, giving listeners time to absorb one idea before moving on to the next. Practise pauses in place of commas, full stops, between paragraphs and for effect.

Do the following exercise 3-6 times a week:

  1. Record your speech for 1-2 minutes maximum

  2. Mark pauses; refer to the app Power, Pitch, Pace, Pause (iOS / Android)

  3. Mark sentence stress and pay attention to intonation; refer to the app Fluent English Speech App (iOS/Android)

  4. Make a note of words with unclear pronunciation and practise them wit the app Get Rid of Your Accent UK1 App (iOS / Android)

  5. Record your speech again.

  6. Do it at least three times

Below is the latest review for the app Get Rid of Your Accent UK1 App (iOS / Android)

"I've found the app to be a really valuable companion to my pronunciation lessons. It's very well structured and easy to navigate, making it simple to find exactly what I want to practise and revisit particular sounds whenever I need to.

For me, the app became especially useful once I started working with a teacher, as it helped reinforce what we covered in class and gave me a clear way to practise between lessons. It has definitely made me more aware of the differences between the sounds of English and those of my native language, and has helped me build a more consistent pronunciation practice routine.

I would recommend it to anyone serious about improving their English pronunciation. It's an excellent resource for structured learning."
